The Best 19 Sites Like Backpage: Alternatives that work in 2021

Oh well, Backpage is not online anymore, and here are the best alternative sites that are currently online in 2021.

All these sites are quite the same. You can sell everything on these from smartphones to yachts and houses. You can even meet friends or even more on websites like these. On most of these, you can post for free or also find free stuff on these sites. Or you can go with classified ads, which are laser targeted.

On this poster you can see text: " Backapge was shut down by by Federal Bereau of Investigation on April 6 of 2018". This 600x250 poster consists of orange background and combination of blue, black, white and yellow text.

I loved Backpage, but this site is not online anymore. So you have to suffice with one of those sites. But don’t worry, some of those sites are not better as a whole, but in specific categories, I believe they are a lot better than Backpage was, and that is coming from someone who almost cried when they shut down BP.

The best 18 Backpage Alternatives

I have listed those sites by my personal preference and my own experience.

What are the best backpage replacement websites in 2019? Continue reading, and you will discover the best 18 alternatives that are available today! You will find out the best 18 classified sites that you can use. That has been around for quite some time and have a lot of traffic each day. You can use these sites to find things to buy, or even people to hire or you can just simply post what you want to sell or to promote your services!

1. Craigslist

Craigslist is the number one competitor of Backpage back in a day when both of these sites were functional. Now Craiglist is the standard and main dog in this industry. This website is used by ten or maybe even hundreds of millions of people per month.

Craigslist has these main categories:

  • For Sale
  • Jobs
  • Housing
  • COmmunity
  • Services
  • Gigs
  • Resumes

All of these had at least 10-30 subcategories. Craigslist is also divided by each country and each state. This is one of the most sophisticated classified sites, even though it does not look like that, with website design from the early 90s.

Within this 600x200 poster you can see icon of a computer with text Craigslist is my number one backapge alternative. This psoter consists of yellow background with little bit of white color. Black computer and black text.

The official website of craigslist is: www.craigslist.com

2. Oodle

Oodle was the second most significant competitor of the backpage back in a day. Now it is the main competitor for craigslist. Since this is the second biggest website in this industry, you can bet that this site is visited by at least 10 million people per month. The design again looks quite old. I would bet websites already looked like this in the early 2000s, but to be fair, the design is more user-friendly than the one from craigslist.

Main Categories on Oodle:

  • Merchandise
  • All Vehicles
  • All Rentals
  • Real Estate
  • Jobs
  • Pets
  • Tickets
  • Services
  • Personals
  • Community

Again most of these have subcategories, and also they are divided by location. Oodle is also made for Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and of course, the United States, which is the leading country for Oodle. Oodle has started as a class field website in the US.

The official website of Oodle is: www.oodle.com

3. eBay/Close5

Close5 was a fantastic app, which let you buy and sell stuff based on your location. Close5 was one of the best local classified apps/websites. But they have been purchased by eBay.

Main Categories on eBay/Close5:

  • Electronics
  • Fashion
  • Health and Beauty
  • Motors
  • Collectibles
  • Sports
  • Home and Garden

Even though that close5 is not technically working anymore, you can still sell on eBay most of the things. You were able to sell on close5. They got rid of only a few things, there is no more close5 community and also the “services and Resumes” category.

Official website of Close5: www.ebay.com

4. Hoobly

Hoobly is a well-known classified ads website. It is quite unfortunate that they did not get an SSL certificate for their site. Because, unlike their competitors, they have great design, which also works great on mobile phones, which is usually not the case.

Main Categories on Hoobly:

  • Announce & Events
  • Art
  • People
  • Business & Industrial
  • Clothing & Accessories
  • Collectibles
  • Electronics
  • Employment & Careers
  • Hobbies & Crafts
  • Home & Garden
  • Jewelry & Gems
  • Musical Instruments
  • Pets & Animals
  • Real Estate
  • Vehicles

The official website of Hoobly is: www.hoobly.com

5. GumTree

Gumtree is a classifieds company in the United Kingdom. When you say classifieds site in the UK, this will be the number one answer and maybe even the only one. They have quite a monopoly within this niche in the UK. But not only the UK, but GumTree is also actually quite popular in Australia or South Africa and of course, the US. And unlike all the sites I have already mention, on GumTree, you can advertise locally or internationally if you want. I am so glad that this website is getting also recognized in the United States because finally a classifieds website which looks like that was build in 2019, I genuinely like this one and not only for the excellent design.

Main Categories on GumTree:

  • Motors
  • For Sale
  • Property
  • Jobs
  • Services
  • Community
  • Pets

Even though they have only seven main categories, you can sell almost anything here.

The official website for GumTree is: www.gumtree.com

6. Locanto

Locanto is one of the great websites that went through significant changes in the past few years. They have expanded not only to Australia but also to Austria, Canada, and South Africa mainly. The only downside to this website is that all posts have only 60 days; after that, posts are get permanently deleted from the Locanto.

Main Categories on Locanto:

  • Personals
  • Community
  • For Rent
  • Jobs
  • Real Estate
  • For Sale
  • Pets
  • Services
  • Vehicles
  • Events

But do not worry, they have over 100 subcategories, you can list here almost anything, it reminds me of a lot of backpage, only with a horrible design.

The official website of Locanto is: www.locanto.com

7. Adpost

Ad Post is currently working in the United States, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, India, and Hong Kong. They have also launched their Global Classifieds.

Main categories on Ad Post:

  • Vehicles
  • Employment
  • Home &Iffuces
  • Pets

They have another 14 “main categories,” but this site is known only for four of those that I have listed.

The official website of Adpost is: www.adpost.com

8. US Free Ads

USFreeAds is still alive only due to the community they have gathered over the years. I sincerely doubt that this website is still getting new “customers/users.” Maybe they do, but I would bet that everyone who is not tech-savvy is not using this website. This site is, at times, even quite hard for me to use. And I spend all my time on a computer. Plus, they have a horrible design, which indeed looks like it was untouched since 1990. And they did not even bother to buy an SSL certificate…

Main Categories on US Free Ads:

  • Automotive
  • Animals
  • Collectibles
  • Real Estate
  • Home and Garden
  • Hobbies
  • Toys
  • Games
  • Health
  • Electronics
  • Clothes
  • Jewelry
  • Services
  • Events
  • Sports

The official website of US Free Ads is: www.usfreeads.com

9. Penny Saver USA

PennySaverUSA is excellent if you want to sell something truly fast and locally, and you don’t mind spending a few dollars on a single banner ad. Penny Saver USA has been around for quite a while, and I still use it from time to time.

Main Categories Penny Saver USA:

  • Merchandise
  • Cars and Vehicles
  • Jobs
  • Pets
  • Services
  • Real Estate

The only downside to this website is that they do not have many subcategories, Penny Saver USA website works only based on location. You can even set a radius for your area, which I find as a great feature, and I wonder why more of these sites do not use this. Anyway, I used this website from time to time, but again, they have been designed from the 90s.

The official website for Penny Saver USA: www.pennysaverusa.com

10. AdLandPro

AdLand Pro has been here since early 1998, and it looks like, that they did not change the design since. To be able to list on AdLand Pro, you have to get an account first. This is probably why this website is still around. Most people prefer it this because they feel safer when buying or selling something. Also, this was one of the first websites in this industry, which had the report feature. And it works till today, even though nowadays there are a lot more scammers on this website.

Main Categories on AdLandPro:

  • Jobs
  • For Sale
  • Vehicles
  • Announcement
  • E-books
  • Real Estate
  • Animals
  • Services
  • Business

The official website for AdLand Pro is: www.adlandpro.com

11. Geebo

Geebo is mainly used in the United States, and locations separate it. They have been rumors for quite some time, that they will release a mobile app. But so far, we still have to use Geebo’s website. Hopefully, they will release a mobile app this year.

Main Categories on Geebo:

  • Merchandise
  • Construction/Farm Equipment
  • Vehicles
  • Services
  • Employment
  • Rentals/Roommates
  • Real Estate
  • Resumes
  • Featured Listings

Geebo is truly a backpage alternative. Because they have almost the same categories and subcategories as the backpage had back in a day. Especially the Roommates category is only on a few sites!

The official website of Geebo is: www.geebo.com

12. USA Today

You might be wondering what the News website is doing on this list. Over ten years ago, they created a classifieds website on a subdomain of the USA today website. I am not a fan of their news sites, but the classifieds website is quite good. And since they receive millions of visitors each day, you will see a lot of traffic on this site as well.

Main Categories on USA Today:

  • Auctions
  • Automotive
  • Business
  • careers
  • Education
  • marketplace
  • Real Estate
  • Services
  • Sports
  • Holidays
  • And a few other small ones.

The official website of USA Today is: www.classifieds.usatoday.com

13. Ads Globe

Well, this one is pretty self-explanatory. This ten years ago, one of the main competitors of craigslist and package, but for some reason, they are not as popular anymore. I genuinely do not know what has happened. But they are still around since they are available to post worldwide, based on location, and in certain countries, they are always numbered 2,3,4 or 5 as the classified site. This is weird to me since they did not even bother to buy an SSL certificate… If there was competition was the single worst website in this industry, they would be a runner up.

Main Categories on Ads Globe:

  • Merchandise
  • Vehicles
  • Real Estate
  • Rentals
  • Pets
  • Travel

The official website of Ads Glove is: www.adsgloe.com

14. City News

CityNews serves people in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and then they have three weird categories: Europe, Asia, and World. I believe they could have done a better job of narrowing these down just a bit, but I get it. The primary market is the US for them, and they did this to look internationally. This website looks like they straight up copied the design from craigslist, but they just made it even worse.

Main Categories on City News:

  • Antiques
  • Astrology
  • Auto
  • Boats
  • Business
  • Entertainment
  • Farm
  • Free
  • Health
  • Hobbies
  • Home
  • Jobs
  • Medical
  • Music
  • Personal Services
  • People
  • Pets
  • Real Estate
  • Restaurants
  • Sports
  • Travel

The official website of city news is: www.citynews.com (They do not have an SSL certificate on their website, but I still think that this website could be trusted, but then again, I have no idea where they have their central servers, I hope they are at least in the US and not China.)

15. 10 Day Ads

Ten Day Ads is a website that is on the uprise I believe in this industry. Not only that, they have a beautiful design, but they also have a mobile responsive website! Which is not common in this niche. 10 Day Ads have over 50 main categories and over 300 subcategories.

10 Days Ads is and uprising backapge replacement site in the year 2019 and beyond. This is the text of this 600x200 image poster, with bright blue corners and pink color as a background.

Also, what is great about their platform is that you can post a video, photo, or even both within your ad. Sellers and even buyers can be rated, which eliminates the scammers from this platform. Next time I need to sell something, I will try their ads first! I have big hopes for them.

Official Website of 10 Day Ads is: www.10dayads.com

16. Ad to Ad

For some reason, I have never really enjoyed this website. But I have heard many good things about Ad-to-ad. But they have a bad design, they do not have an SSL certificate, and you have to have an account to post something, which I find useless since there is no rating system.

Main Categories on Ad To Ad:

  • Services
  • Vehicles, Boats, and Aviation
  • Shopping
  • Rental & Roommates
  • Home electronics
  • Jobs Offered/Wanted
  • Personal
  • Hobby
  • Houseware
  • Announcements
  • Business Directory
  • Real Estate

The official website of Ad to Ad is: www.adtoad.com

17. Trovit

Even though Trovit is almost at the bottom of this list, I quite like it. They have a nice clean design, and it works great on mobile phones.

Main Categories on Trovit:

  • Homes
  • Cars
  • Jobs

The official website of Trovit is: www.trovit.com

18. FreeAdsTIme

Free Ads Time is one of the largest classifieds websites. They are mainly oriented for the US market because they have a subcategory for each state and almost every city! This is unheard of, creating this website must have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, but it looks like the site was never touched after they have created it. They have one of the worst designs I saw in my whole life.

But they also have categories for Canada. Even for Europe, where they have at least almost all the countries and the central city. They have several categories for Asia, South America, and also Africa, and Oceania.

The official website of Free Ads Time is: www.freeadstime.org

2021 Update

Bedpage

Bedpage is a classified website that emerges just before Backpage died. The website offers users to browse or place their ads for free in all major categories like Buy/ Sell/ Trade, Automotive, Real Estate, etc. Due to the similarity of its name and also because it has been ranked on Google’s first page during queries such as “Backpage Substitute,” many people even consider BedPage as an “alternative” for backpackers who want someplace else safe where they can post their adverts without any fear of getting banned from posting anything again due to irrelevant reasons!

Is Bedpage Legit?

I personally do not think that Bedpage is a real classified website with legitimate service. In fact, it looks like they’re just looking for any and every way to scam their users into buying leads or ads on the site. I have some arguments as well to back up my point of view:

  • The majority of these websites are scams in general so how can we be sure this one isn’t? It’s true there would definitely need to be an alternative if Backpage shut down but who wants to risk getting scammed again by using another bed page substitute when you know what happened last time? There might even still exist some form of communication between companies which could lead people here being victims twice over!

Bedpage & Police

Dart has started a campaign to stop prostitution by going after the website Backpage.com, which is commonly used for advertising purposes and helped Dart successfully lobby Visa and Mastercard. His crusade against this site was challenged in federal court where he lost his case temporarily because it violates their freedom of speech as well as being unconstitutional according to some lawyers who have been interviewed on TV about the topic.

My Final Words

I can’t tell you which of these websites is the best. Because that depends not only on what category you are mainly looking for. But also on your location. What I am trying to say is that you have to find out for yourself which one serves your purpose the best. For me, it is craigslist, because I was looking for people to hire, but for you, it might be locally or something else.

If I was not clear enough, none of these websites is backpage replacement site. All of these sites are a competition of the backpage website. Well, or at least they were, but they are not anymore. Since the website is no longer operating. And by operating I mean around the world, it was not only shut down in the US, as some people think! Anyway, I have personal experience with all of these, and I can’t say which one is the best replacement because each of these sites has that unique element. Some of them are good in JOBS sections and others in Buy/Sell/Trade phones or games or other categories. I have tried to describe them to the best of my abilities, and now it is up to you. To test which one of these will fit your needs the best!

Backpage replacement site does not exist, but I listed the best-classified websites, that are currently on the market and what is left for us. The original BP website was unfortunately shut down, so these are the best alternatives that we can still use.

Pieces of Advice before posting ads on Backpage alternative sites

If you want to sell anything on classified sites, please make sure that you are following these rules, it will improve your success rate:

  • Create clickbait titles. You need to catch their attention within seconds because everyone now a day is used to scrolling down fast like it was a facebook feed.
  • Do not share personal details if you do not have to. If you want to stay safe, be cautious where and when you are sharing this information and, most importantly, to who.
  • If you ever come in contact with a scammer on one of those sites, report them. You will make the website better!
  • Write all the details about your items, if you can post several photos do that. When you are taking the images, prepare the theme for “photoshoot” and also do it in perfect light. The better the picture, the more money you will get, and it will be easier to sell, trust me!

Anyway, thank you for reading this article. If you know about any other website which is like Backpage, where you can offer or buy things or even trade, send me a comment below this article, and I will add the website to the list of Backpage alternatives.
